Coughing and Can’t Sleep?

Don’t forget the tea tree…

This cold and flu season has been challenging on our immune systems this year. Tools are what one needs to fight off the bugs. Some helpful tips to battle these bugs!

We have all heard how stress affects our immune system.  Our nervous system is our computer that controls all function. If it has too much stress it crashes leading to illness. Physical stress is a big problem for the nervous system. Chiropractic adjustments can help the body’s immune response! It helps take the stress off the body!!!

Another problem is a blocked lymphatic system. This is another reason the body gets ill. Simply massage from the ear down along the neck to the clavicle. Then massage under the clavicle from the sternum out to the shoulder. Then massage from the medial clavicle down the sternum on both sides. This helps to create movement of the lymphatic system. Flushing the system out! See video above.

Another great choice is oregano, it acts as a natural antibiotic. We have a special formula that contains oregano.

If one has a cough, in a diffuser you can add 3-5 drops of melaleuca, also known as tea tree oil. Melaleuca is known to have properties to help fight off viruses and bacteria.  When used in a diffuser one is inhaling the melaleuca, so as to get it into the lungs. Very good for a persistent cough!!

Boosting your immune system is another way to fight off infection. There is a specific formula we use at Voitenko Wellness that helps stop the virus from jumping from cell to cell and mutating. It’s a natural herbal approach that is very affective.

Can Digestive Problems Lead to Disease

By Dr. Amber Voitenko

Leaky-Gut-Syndrome (1) What is Leaky Gut Syndrome?

Disruption of the gut lining can be caused by food intolerance, alcohol, stress, anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, candida, fatty acid deficiencies which lead to disruption of  the gut wall.  The disruption of the gut lining leads to improper absorption. Food is seen as an invader causing antibodies to be produced, inflaming the gut wall. Multiple food intolerances cause these antibodies. These antibodies form a complex with food, then are deposited in gut tissue which lead to gut inflammation.

An inflamed gut causes nutrients and waste to leak from the gut and worsens improper absorption and more antibodies are produced leading to leaky gut syndrome.

Signs of leaky gut syndrome include digestive issues like bloating, gas, diarrhea, or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).  Seasonal allergies or asthma can also be a sign. If you have hormonal imbalances like polycystic ovary disease or PMS, an autoimmune disease such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, celiac disease, psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis, or if you have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, or candida, these are all indicators that you may be suffering from leaky gut syndrome.

The solution to repairing your gut is to have a clean way of eating. You want to focus on an anti-inflammatory diet. Simply put, your diet should consist of protein, vegetables, and a little bit of fruit. You should avoid grains, dairy, prepared and processed food products, as well as meats with antibiotics or hormones. There are other foods that may need to be avoided as well depending on one’s health history. There are certain supplements and vitamins that can help speed up the repair of the gut wall.

At Voitenko Wellness we do a through consultation and examination to help create a plan of attack. The goal is to create optimum health to help bring back quality of life.

For more individualized information regarding your health, please call Voitenko Wellness at 714-730-2225 or contact us here to schedule an appointment!

What are the Known Causes of Fibromyalgia?

By Dr. Amber Voitenko
 on January 21, 2021

How can I address my Fibromyalgia symptoms?

When you have fibromyalgia it seems like there are no answers. Doctors will say that you have to live with your pain. When it comes to this complicated condition you have to address the body as a whole. Questions must get answered and tests must be done. The first line of business is a thorough consultation and exam.

Symptoms of fibromyalgia include: Chronic fatigue, digestive problems, tender points, tiring easily, sleep disturbances, as well as stress and anxiety. And speaking of stress…What handles stress in the body are your adrenal glands. They are located on top of your kidneys. They are in charge of producing steroidal hormones that can help with pain, sleep and digestion. When one has adrenal fatigue it can cause many problems with the body like sleep difficulties, fatigue, and digestive problems. Adrenal fatigue must be ruled out!

Another aspect to evaluate is digestive problems. Due to toxins in our food, air, and water, our gut wall gets destroyed and can wreak havoc on digestion. If the digestive system is not functioning well you will not be able to absorb and utilize the nutrition from your food. It can also cause toxins to leak into your system and cause disease process. There are bacteria that can also cause trouble with the digestive tract. There are specific tests that can be ran to find out if you have this bacteria. This known bacteria is H. Pylori.

Due to postural situations, repetitive traumas, and nerve interference, function can be lost and can cause unwanted pain and inflammation throughout the body.

This is just to name a few situations that can be causing symptoms to be worse for a fibromyalgia patient.

At Voitenko Wellness we do a through consultation and examination to help create a plan of attack. The goal is to create less stress on the body to help bring back quality of life.

Why Live with Discomfort?

By Dr. Amber Voitenko
 on January 21, 2021

Life is short, live pain free…

Sometimes we do not realize what pain and tension does to our lifestyle. It can stop us in our tracks. Sometimes we cope with the discomfort and then it becomes worse. Steve had been dealing with tension and pain in his back. He also for years had been dealing with plantar fasciitis. He thought it would work itself out and then realized it was effecting his job. After looking at his ailments and going through an exam, he decided to get treatment to get out of pain. He also decided to commit to exercise. He now has less tension, his feet are pain free, and he has better movement. Great job Steve!

Don’t Put A Band Aid On Your Symptoms

Michael Had Been in Constant Pain…

Michael has had constant pain in his wrists, hands, shoulders, knees, and feet for years. He has had muscle tension and tightness in his low back. He attended 24 physical therapy treatments and the pain still persisted. He was taking 4 to 8 Ibuprofen a day. He also had to stop yoga practice.

Michael has now gone down to two ibuprofen per day and has less pain in his hands, no foot pain, and less pain in his shoulders and body. He’s very pleased with the chiropractic treatment plan Dr. Amber prescribed. He has received gentle chiropractic adjustments as well as vibration therapy for muscle tension and scar tissue. He is looking forward to returning to yoga practice.

Migraine Headaches Stop You in Your Tracks

By Dr. Amber Voitenko
 on January 21, 2021

Can You Please Say That Again? My Head Hurts So Bad I Can’t Hear You!

Migraine headache symptoms are nasty. A person with migraine headaches will tell you that their quality of life is not what it should be. Though many sufferers cope and think that there is no solution and that they just have to live with the pain, it’s not true!

Symptoms of migraine headaches include: pain(usually on one side of the head), nausea, dizziness, and visual disturbances. The aura is what we name the visual disturbance. This can occur before or during a migraine headache. This is the nervous system coming into play. The visual disturbances include: visual loss, flashes of light, and bright spots. The aura can also include speech (verbal), movement (motor), or touching sensation (sensory) disturbances.

Migraines can be caused by past traumas such as a head injury or whiplash. These traumas can cause brain stem changes. These injuries can also damage the spine causing postural changes that when evaluated by a Chiropractor can be treated. Therefore, improving and lessening stress on the spinal nerves creates better nerve function. In chiropractic, our treatments are called adjustments. We also do muscle therapies to help reduce tension and tightness.

Your day to day activities cause postural changes that can also bring on migraine headaches. You must look at the ergonomics of your work space. Daily stretches and exercise will also improve posture.

Looking at your diet is important as well. Making sure you are drinking enough water will help keep you hydrated. Dehydration leads to headaches. Certain foods cause inflammation which can lead to headaches and pain. Red meat, red wine, and egg yolk all have arachidonic acids. Arachidonic acid causes inflammation, which can cause a headache. Having a diet that consists of too much sugar can also lead to inflammation. Having too many carbohydrates, and not being active, leads to a spike in blood sugar. A rise in blood sugar causes pain and inflammation. If you want pain, eat more sugar. If you want to avoid pain, eat less sugar!

Besides neurological stress and diet, hormone imbalance, and toxicity must be evaluated as a causative factor and should be ruled out.

Why are we so depleted in Vitamin D?

By Dr. Amber Voitenko
 on January 21, 2021
with 1 comment

Isn’t the sun good for us?

We have been told about the damaging effects of the sun so many of us use UV sun protection. Years and years ago we were working outside in the sun not using UV protection. Our bodies were able to produce enough Vitamin D. In a short period of time we would be able to absorb between 10,000 and 20,000 IU’s of Vitamin D from working outside. So, we need sun. We are just not getting enough Vitamin D and Vitamin D is so important.

Vitamin D helps prevent abnormal cell growth, bone loss, osteoarthritis, and infection. It has also been found in research that Vitamin D is beneficial in preventing heart disease. Besides all of the important jobs Vitamin D has to offer the body, it has been found in recent studies that it can help fight and prevent cancer.

85% of our population is deficient in Vitamin D! Children can also be deficient, not just adults.

Even though the body is built to get Vitamin D through the skin, you also can get it through your mouth. Vitamin D super foods include salmon (especially wild-caught) or mackerel (especially wild-caught). Other sources include tuna, sardines, cod liver oil,
and egg yolks.
