Disruption of the gut lining can be caused by food intolerance, alcohol, stress, anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, candida, fatty acid deficiencies which lead to disruption of the gut wall. The disruption of the gut lining leads to improper absorption. Food is seen as an invader causing antibodies to be produced, inflaming the gut wall. Multiple food intolerances cause these antibodies. These antibodies form a complex with food, then are deposited in gut tissue which lead to gut inflammation.
An inflamed gut causes nutrients and waste to leak from the gut and worsens improper absorption and more antibodies are produced leading to leaky gut syndrome.
Signs of leaky gut syndrome include digestive issues like bloating, gas, diarrhea, or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Seasonal allergies or asthma can also be a sign. If you have hormonal imbalances like polycystic ovary disease or PMS, an autoimmune disease such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, celiac disease, psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis, or if you have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, or candida, these are all indicators that you may be suffering from leaky gut syndrome.
The solution to repairing your gut is to have a clean way of eating. You want to focus on an anti-inflammatory diet. Simply put, your diet should consist of protein, vegetables, and a little bit of fruit. You should avoid grains, dairy, prepared and processed food products, as well as meats with antibiotics or hormones. There are other foods that may need to be avoided as well depending on one’s health history. There are certain supplements and vitamins that can help speed up the repair of the gut wall.
